Siano Chip Targets Latin American Market

Mobile TV receiver chip maker Siano Mobile Silicon

has launched a new chip targeting the emerging mobile TV market in Latin America. The SMS2130 chip supports the ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting – Terrestrial) mobile technology, also known as ISDB-T 1-Seg. According to Siano, the chip introduces new levels of optimizations in performance and cost that suit the specific needs of the Latin American consumer market.

Mobile digital TV services are already available in more than 40 cities in Brazil, covering a population of more than 70m people. The services are being offered for free, with plans to introduce advanced data and interactive services in 2011, generating exciting revenue generation possibilities for the various players in the eco-system.

“Siano-based products have been selling in high volumes in Brazil for a few months now under the leading mobile operators such as Vivo, Claro and TIM,” says Pompilio Roselli, Siano’s general manager for the LATAM region. “The introduction of the SMS2130 enables our customers to keep rolling out new exciting mobile TV in their mobile devices and terminals, using a receiver that is smaller in size, that has improved performance and extremely low power consumption. It is targeted at the demanding consumer of LATAM, providing best user experience in the market.”

The SMS2130 is the first member in a new family of products for the LATAM market, which Siano will announce in the next few months. It is available now in samples to selected  customers. Siano says that it is already engaged with a few customers developing consumer electronic products and mobile phones using the chip.
