Sieze the Tiered Data Pricing Opportunity, says Openwave

In the light of recent decisions taken by Verizon and AT&T in the US, and O2 in the UK, regarding flat-rate data, mobile operators have a great opportunity to sell tiered data packages, based around time (one-hour/one-day roaming passes) or events, (a World Cup) package. So says John Giere, senior vice president, products and marketing at Openwave.

According to Giere, more than 20 operators around the world are currently testing and implementing new pricing strategies in an effort to support the market need for ever more segmented data traffic plans against the declining voice-based ARPUs.

“As the transition to more creative pricing plans continues, operators shouldn’t miss the opportunity to grab market share, by positioning these service tiers as offering greater customer choice, instead of as a complex minefield of hidden charges,” he says.
