Sky+ gets Mobile Recording Boost

UK TV viewers who have a Sky+ box can now use their mobiles  to programme the hard disc-based set top box recorder to record their favourite shows, using the Sky+ Remote Record service. The service works with all versions of Sky+ including the recently-launched Sky HD (High Definition) box.
There are two ways to set the Sky+ box recording from a mobile. Viewers with a 2.5G, 3G or GPRS phone who have downloaded the Sky by Mobile application can view Skys seven-day TV guide on their phone and select programmes to record from there. The guide they see on their phone looks similar to Skys onscreen guide, and enables viewers to browse listings and view programme details on the move. There is no charge to use this part of the service, other than the phone operators data charge for using 2.5G, 3G or GPRS services.
Alternatively, viewers can sent a text to a dedicated shortcode, 61759, with details of the programme, channel, date and time of the recording. For example: The Simpsons. Sky 1. 11/06. 18:30. Sky then searches the TV listings, and if a match is found, a message is sent to the customers Sky+ box to programme the recording, and the customer is sent a text confirming the recording request. This text is charged at 25p. Recording requests can be made from outside the UK.
To use Remote Record, viewers must have an active Sky+ subscription, and must register to use the service, so that their details can be linked to the Sky+ box where they want recording requests to be sent. Up to eight mobiles can be registered on one box.
To register for the SMS service, viewers press Interactive on their Sky+ remote, select Sky Active and then go to My Sky. They then select Remote Record and are directed to the Remote Record registration page.
To use the Sky by Mobile Remote Record service, viewers first need to register online for Sky by Mobile. To do so, they need to subscribe to Sky Sports 1 and 2 or Sky Movies 1 and 2 or be a Sky Bet customer. Registration for the Remote Record service is then carried out via the Sky+ box, as for the SMS service.
Later this summer, Sky will also launch an online  version of  Remote record, enabling Sky+ viewers to programme recordings over the Internet.
Remote Record is perfect for those situations when you hear about a TV show and want to record it there and then, or if you want to catch a particular programme and youre stuck at work, waiting for a delayed train or even on holiday, says Sky Director of Customer Products and Services, Brian Sullivan. Were constantly innovating and adapting our products to give customers the best TV experience. This  new service is a world first that adds to the choice, flexibility and control millions of Sky+ users already enjoy.
