Sky introduces loyalty programme thats actually based on being loyal

SkyTelevision and broadband giant Sky is introducing a loyalty programme, based on the length of time that people have been a customer rather than how much money they spend each year – the first programme of its kind in the TV and broadband sector.

Sky VIP, which lives within the My Sky app, offers ‘hundreds of thousands’ of free tickets to loyal customers at top sporting events such as the British Masters and the Premier League, exclusive preview screenings of the latest films and prize draws for ‘money-can’t-buy’ experiences such as a chance to visit the filming locations of Game of Thrones.

“Sky has always been a customer led company and the launch of Sky VIP is about putting our existing customers first and showing we value their loyalty,” said Stephen Van Rooyen, chief executive of Sky UK and Ireland. “This isn’t about tactical deals or collecting points – it’s about offering genuine experiences and benefits we know our customers value and which only Sky can ofer.”

The more time that somebody has been a customer with Sky, the better rewards they will have access to. The program is broken down into four tiers. The ‘silver’ tier is customers that have been with Sky for 0-3 years and includes the chance to enter prize draws and get free VIP tickets to sporting events, cinema preview, and other special events.

The second tier is ‘gold’, which is for customers that have been with Sky for 3-8 years. This includes all of the ‘silver’ tier, as well as giving the customer free Sky Go Extra and access to Sky Atlantic VIP, which gives fans the chance to watch some of Sky Atlantic’s shows 24 hours before anyone else.

Thirdly, there is ‘platinum’ for 8-15 years. This tier provides the customer with both ‘silver’ and ‘gold’ perks, as well as a free upgrade to Sky Fibre and a free data boost to the customer’s Sky Mobile Piggy Bank – if they’re on the network.

Finally, the ‘black’ tier is for those that have been with Sky for over 15 years. Sticking it out for this long will reward the customer with a free Sky Q upgrade and a priority service with dedicated phone number to avoid queues, on top of the perks from the other three levels.
