During his time at Sky, he played an important role in product introductions such as Sky Mobile, Sky Broadband, NOW TV, the evolution of Sky’s TV platforms, Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream and in the development of Sky’s content and programming, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema and all Sky Channels.

Commenting on his appointment, Van Rooyen said: “I am thrilled to be joining the VodafoneZiggo family. After living in London for many years, I am looking forward to living and working in the Netherlands together with my family.”

In the meantime, VodafoneZiggo’s CFO, Ritchy Drost has been appointed interim CEO until Stephen van Rooyen starts in September.

Vodafone Group Chief Executive, Margherita Della Valle, added: “Through his experience in various leadership positions at Sky, Stephen brings expertise in both the telecoms and media sectors.

“We wish him the best of luck when he takes over in September. In the meantime, we are confident that Ritchy will lead the company well and we would like to thank Jeroen Hoencamp for the success of VodafoneZiggo since he took over as CEO eight years ago.”
