Skyfire Handed Telenor Video Optimisation Brief

Opera’s Skyfire subsidiary has been named as the lead supplier for network-based mobile video and media optimization in the agreement announced on Monday for Alcatel Lucent to deliver technologies for optimizing the internet experience in Telenors mobile networks across 11 countries.

The contract is initially a three-year agreement, using Skyfires cloud media adaptation engine, Rocket Optimizer, which will compress and optimize Telenors mobile video and data traffic on 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. Skyfire says the solution offers the ability to provide “surgical”, targeted relief to individual users facing a poor quality of experience. Implementation will begin in selected Southeast Asian countries.

Since signing a global framework agreement for client-based optimization in 2010, Opera Software and Telenor have implemented several innovative technologies together. This includes the Opera Mini co-branded browser, operator choice of links and Speed Dials, zero-rating of selected sites in the browser as well as the Web Pass solution for easy purchase of data packages.
