Slack Launches App Store, $80m Development Fund

slack-combo.pngSlack has launched the Slack Platform, a multi-part offering intended to expand third-party support for the work messaging app.

The first part is the Slack App Directory, a storefront listing any apps which integrate with Slacks service. The directory currently lists over 160 apps, ranging from mobile payments service Stripe to taxi-booking app Lyft.

To encourage this development, Slack has also announced a $80m fund, in partnerships with six of its investors. The money is available to any Slack-first apps as well as B2B and enterprise tools that make Slack integrations a core part of their offering.

Finally, to make it easier for developers to create apps – and in particular chat bots – it has launched Botkit, a development framework for Slack from bot creator Howdy.
