56 per cent of people said they would welcome location-based offers – but only 16 per cent had received one while out shopping, according to research from Tradedoubler. 35 per cent said they want to use mobile vouchers.
The report, which is based on responses from 2,000 smartphone users in Europe, cautioned of the ‘showrooming’ phenomenon, as 42 per cent of shoppers who use their phone in a shop revealed they go on track down better deals elsewhere. But 38 per cent of people who research a product on their smartphone go into a shop to buy it.
“We’re finding that mobile search can be a tremendous catalyst to driving consumers onto the high street,” Dan Cohen, market unit leader, Tradedoubler. “Retailers who fail to embrace this will quickly be left behind.”
