Snapchat Launches Search Bar

Snapchat SearchSnapchat has launched a universal search bar to enable its users to navigate the app, making it easier to find friends, publishers and Stories. The search facility is available now for some Android users, with a full Android and iOS roll-out to follow.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Snapchat said the search facility is designed for speed – and the move will no doubt be welcomed by brands looking to use the platform to promote themselves, and by Snapchat users eager to attract more followers more easily.

Of all the social media outlets out there, Snapchat is arguably the most difficult to navigate, with LinkedIn coming in a close second. This move is not entirely unexpected, following Snap’s acquisition of mobile search startup Vurb last year.

Separately, Snap has denied that, as widely reported a few days ago, it has selected London as its international headquarters. In a blog post, the company noted that it has its headquarters in Los Angeles, with many other offices throughout the world.

What it has done is to change the way it operates its business in London. The company said: “Going forward, we will bill our advertising revenue from the UK (and a few other countries) through a UK entity. This allows us to pay taxes in the UK, which we believe is part of being a good local partner as we grow our business.”

Other social media companies may wish to take note.
