Snapchat is giving Snapchatters across Europe the ability to create their own geofilters for special events directly from the app.
From today (5 September), Snapchat users in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland will be able to design their very own graphic overlay for photo or video Snaps. These can be used to represent any event, and can be used to cover an area of up to 450,000 square metres and be available for up to a few days.
Prices of the geofilters start at £5.99, depending on length of time available and area covered – which must be a minimum area of 1800 square metres. The filters must follow Snapchat’s geofilter guidelines, as well as its community guidelines, and the company will take approximately one business day to review each custom geofilter.
To create a geofilter, users must tap on their Bitmoji in the top left corner of the Snapchat app. From here, they have to tap on the settings/gear icon, tap ‘On-Demand Geofilters’, and get their creative juices flowing in the Creative Studio with one of Snapchat’s themes, templates or designs. Once finished, the users have to choose when and where they would like their geofilter to appear, and pay via in-app purchases, before submitting to Snapchat. Once approved, the user, and whoever else is meant to be there, just have to visit the location at the time chosen and enjoy using their geofilter.
