Social Media Site Aims to Connect Communities

A new visual media platform has launched that promises a Twitter-like experience with added video- and photo-sharing features, as well as geo-location. Called Mobli, the service is available as an iPhone app and a desktop website.

Users sign up for a profile – called a User Channel – and can post content to their online space. Users can place category-specific tags on their posts which places their content in other Subject Channels. Posts are also automatically syndicated to Location Channels.

“Mobli is like having a friend at every event or location you find interesting, feeding you real-time, multimedia content,” says Moshe Hogeg, founder and CEO of Mobli. “We created smartphone applications and a website that delivers the best of what social media was intended to be by enabling people to bring experiences and events to life for others with shared interests. At its essence, Mobli lets you watch real-time channels created by your friends, family and other people wherever they are.”

By creating channels that any person can view and contribute to, without having to be directly connected with one another, people now have the ability to see photos, videos and other posts about topics of interest to them, without the barriers typically in place on other social networking sites, says the company.

Mobli was created in 2009, and is backed by private investors. It is based in New York City with a R&D centre in Tel Aviv. Go to the iTunes Store to download the app, or the companys website to sign up online.
