Sony shuts down Neon Koi and Firewalk Studios

Sony is closing down its Neon Koi and Firewalk Studios.

In a recent announcement to Sony employees, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Studio Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that after a thorough review of its games portfolio and project status to align with “near and long-term business priorities,” the company made the “difficult decision” to close Neon Koi and Firewalk Studios.

For Neon Koi, Hulst noted that “mobile remains a priority growth area,” but Sony must “focus on titles that align with PlayStation Studios’ standards and have the potential for wider global reach.”

Regarding Firewalk Studios, Hulst explained that Sony had “spent considerable time these past few months exploring all our options” and ultimately decided the “best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio.”

“I know this is difficult news, especially with colleagues and friends departing SIE,” Hulst added. “Both decisions were given serious thought and are aimed at strengthening our organization.”

Hulst acknowledged the talent within both studios, adding that Sony would support some impacted employees in finding new positions within its global network of studios where possible.

“Though today is challenging, there is much to look forward to in the coming months from the Studio Business Group,” Hulst concluded. “I remain confident in our commitment to creating unforgettable entertainment experiences for our players.”
