Spotify and Snapchat are collaborating to allow music listeners to share their library of songs, albums and podcasts with their Snapchat friends, straight from the Spotify app. Coming soon, iOS and Android users will be able to add their Spotify activity to their Snapchat story, or send to just a few friends.
“With Spotify, you can listen to your favorite music and podcasts anytime, anywhere. With Snapchat, you can share what you’re up to instantaneously. Soon you’ll be able to combine the two seamlessly and share what you’re listening to in a Snap [story],” said Spotify in a blog post.
Once the new feature rolls out, users will be able to go to the “share” menu on Spotify, and choose Snapchat from the list of options. Once Snapchat is selected, it will open a new Snap with full song/album details and artwork. Users can then edit their Snap like usual, then send to their story or specific friends.
Once a Snap containing a song, album, or podcast is received and opened, the other person can swipe up and click on the context card. Then, Spotify app will open and start playing that content automatically. People must have both the Spotify and Snapchat app downloaded for the feature to work.
“With this new way of sharing, it’s quicker and easier for friends to share what they’re listening to — and for others to start listening,” said Spotify.
