SoundCloud Launches Ads in the UK

soundcloud appSoundCloud has launched ads on its music streaming service for the first time in the UK and Ireland.

An undefined share of revenues generated from the audio and display ads will go towards the artists posting music on the platform.

Alongside this launch, the service is also introducing an ad-free alternative: SoundCloud Go, which offers an expanded catalogue of tracks and offline listening, at a cost of £9.99, or £12.99 if purchased through the iOS app (presumably to offset the share of revenue taken by Apple).

SoundCloud Go first launched in the US at the end of March, but there's been no word yet on what uptake has been like for the subscription service.
