Spotify has launched its Spotify Kids app in beta in the UK. It will also be launched in all markets around the globe that have Premium Family, though its not clear whether this happens in tandem with the UK today, or in thr weeks and months to come. We have sought clarification from Spotify on this point.
The app was originally announced and launched in beta in Ireland in October. Its aimed at children aged three and over. It is ad-free, as part of Premium Family, and the content is hand-picked by Spotify’s editors. Parents can select the “Audio for Younger Kids” or “Audio for Older Kids” experience based on what’s best for their children.
Spotify Kids lets young listeners listen to audio they like with their own account, and explore their tastes in an environment designed for kids, with explicit content filtered out. They can also listen to playlists made specially for kids, and play their favourite tracks offline on iOS devices
The app includes artists selected especially for their resonance with UK youngsters, including CBeebies, Little Mix, Rastamouse, George Ezra, Hey Duggee, McFly, Adele, Craig David, Calvin Harris, Spice Girls, Take That and Busted.
“Spotify is committed to giving billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by music and stories and we’re proud that this commitment now includes the next generation of audio listeners,” said Spotify chief premium business officer, Alex Norström. “We are excited to be expanding the Spotify Premium Family experience with a dedicated app just for our youngest fans. Spotify Kids is a personalized world bursting with sound, shape and colour, where our young listeners can begin a lifelong love of music and stories.”
