Spotify Makes the Move into Video and More

Spotify videoAs part of a relaunch of its music streaming service on mobile, Spotify has announced that it will be stepping beyond audio for the first time, bringing in video content from partners including BBC, Condé Nast and Vice Media.

The other biggest introduction is Spotify Running, a feature which automatically detects the runners tempo and selects tracks, either based on their listening history, from pre-constructed playlists or even, with the Running Originals, tracks specifically designed for running that dynamically adapt to the intensity of the run. This includes a partnership with Nike, the details of which are still a little hazy, but will include Spotify Running being integrating into the Nike+ app.

Running Originals is part of a wider push towards original content – both video and audio, but mostly focused on music – which also includes radio shows presented by artists like Icona Pop and Tyler the Creator, documentaries and even a music-themed cookery show.
