Stacey Solomon teams up with NSPCC and O2 to help provide online education to families

TV presenter Stacey Solomon has linked up with the NSPCC and O2 to help educate families about the internet through a quiz game which encourages parents and children to test their knowledge of the digital world against one another.
Parents vs Kids has been designed to trigger family conversations about the internet and features questions on topics including internet safety, online slang, social networks, and general online knowledge. The game, which first arrived on Amazon Alexa last year, is now available on mobile, tablet, and desktop.
“Our partnership with the NSPCC plays an important role in helping parents understand the online world,” said Nina Bibby, O2 CMO. “We were delighted that the launch of our Parents vs Kids quiz, in October last year, drove over 1.5m meaningful conversations between parents and their children about the digital world. We are excited to take it to the next level with the creation of the mobile, tablet and desktop versions.”
According the NSPCC and O2, who are long-standing partners in promoting child online safety, almost three-quarters of children don’t know Instagram’s default privacy setting. Meanwhile, 60 per cent of parents aren’t aware that WhatsApp can monitor your location. These findings were based on a sample of 6,000 adults and children who played the game on Alexa between October and November 2018.
“With the digital world, particularly social media, evolving all the time it is vital that parents and their children know how to stay safe online,” said Laura Randall, associate head of child safety online at NSPCC. “By extending our partnership with O2 we aim to reach millions more adults with vital information and advice that will help them make the internet a safer and more fun place to be for young people.”
