Starling takes its challenger bank to Ireland

Digital-only challenger bank Starling is to launch in Ireland, having received a banking “passport” to operate in the country. The company launched its current account in the UK in March, and has plans to expand to other European countries.

Starling, headed up by ex-Irish Allied Bank COO Anne Boden, says its current account can be set up within two minutes of downloading the iPhone or Android app.

Starling has also launched a Spending Insights tool within its app which gives customers a clear view of where they are spending their money each month. It is also launching an online community for customers to share ideas for products and services, and feedback on the current Starling offering. Another new product, Goals, is also in the pipeline. This will enable customers to set money aside for a special purchase, without having to move it into a separate savings account.
