Penguin has released The Fry Chronicles, Stephen Fry’s second volume of autobiography, across a trio of publishing platforms, including mobile. In addition to the conventional hardback book, Penguin has also published The Fry Chronicles e-book and the myFry app for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The app is available in the Apple App Store priced at £7.99. It uses a tagged colourwheel to explore the book’s content in a non-linear fashion. There are four colour-coded categories: People; Subjects; Feelings; and Fryisms. The e-book will be available from selected retailers for £12.99.
“In the year Penguin celebrates its 75th Birthday, its publication of Stephen Fry’s brilliant memoir is as innovative and groundbreaking as Allen Lane’s original vision for the paperback revolution,” says Louise Moore, managing director of Michael Joseph, the Penguin UK imprint which is publishing The Fry Chronicles. “Blending established elements with the radically new, we are demonstrating how a wonderful, old-fashioned hardback book can be re-imagined with the help of today’s exciting new technologies to capture the imagination of hundreds and thousands of readers. I can’t think of a better author to launch this kind of new publishing – Stephen himself represents everything that we hold dear and value in Britain, yet at the same time has an extraordinary knowledge and love of cutting edge technology.”
