Mobile payments company SumUp has launched its service, which enables merchants to accept card payments via a smartphone, in Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
SumUp has already launched in the UK, Ireland, Germany, and Austria, meaning its now available in seven countries, twelve weeks after its initial launch. According to the company, that means it has the largest international footprint of any mobile POS operator.
“Too many merchants in countries all over Europe are unable to take credit and debit card payments because traditional banks’ expensive and complex model of renting out terminals is a poor fit for their businesses,” said SumUp CEO Daniel Klein. “Given this, it’s not surprising that there’s been an enormous demand for our solution. With today’s move into Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, we are going farther than ever towards meeting this demand. Quite simply, we are ready and willing to put our resources into servicing an additional three markets – and look forward to expanding into even more markets in the future.”
To support the launches, SumUp will be opening offices in Milan, Madrid, and Amsterdam.
