Super Mario Run to Arrive on Android in March

Super Mario RunSuper Mario Run will arrive on Android in March, following its iPhone launch on 15 December 2016, Nintendo announced on Twitter.

The game experienced a great deal of success upon launch last month – breaking App Store download records, topping 40 million downloads in its first four days. Much of this success can probably be attributed to raised expectations following the success of Pokémon Go.

Despite the apparent success of the game, a side scroller where the Italian plumber constantly – well – runs, Nintendo’s share prices were sent crashing. The reason for this is likely to be that only three of the game’s 24 levels are free and not many have been willing to fork out $9.99 to unlock all the rest of its features. According to Reuters, analysts have said that less than one in 10 people, who have downloaded the game, have agreed to pay for the full game.

On top of this, the game has faced further criticism for its need to have a constant internet connection. The game currently has a two and a half star rating, from 14,322 ratings of all versions, on the App Store.

Nintendo will be hoping the Android release garners more positivity, or this could, overall, signal a failed venture for Nintendo into the world of mobile gaming.
