On-device portal (ODP) company SurfKitchen
has made a number of announcements at 3GSM. Firstly, it says that
following the development of Orange Downloads, a branded ODP
application developed for Orange by SurfKitchen, Orange has seen a near doubling of download data ARPU from Signature devices featuring Orange Downloads.
The application was developed as part of Oranges Signature device
strategy which aims to offer customers a simple and seamless experience
with one click access to services. Orange Downloads was launched at
the end of 2005 in the UK and France and offers customers easy access
to the most popular mobile content, including ringtones, pictures and
games.
Revenues from Orange World, Oranges mobile portal, have increased by
more than 30% says SurfKitchen, as users are more comfortable accessing
and downloading mobile content through the Orange Downloads
application. There was a similar rise in repeat usage, with more than
30% increase in the number of first time users returning to both Orange
Downloads and Orange World to access the service and make further
purchases.
Orange Downloads has been pre-installed on more than one million
devices across 20 different handset models for Orange France and 17
models for Orange UK. The success of the initial service has led to
further rollouts to Orange Spain, Orange Netherlands and Orange Poland.

Separately, SurfKitchen has launching its streaming TV client, SurfKit
Stream. The fully interactive on-device client has been specifically
developed to provide a simple user experience for viewing TV on mobile
devices.
SurfKit Stream provides a branded interface on the mobile device, with
intuitive graphical menus to enable quick and easy access to electronic
programme guides, and channel switching between streaming content.
SurfKit Stream is available as a stand-alone product or can be bundled
with SurfKitchens existing product portfolio to provide a complete
mobile on-device experience.
SurfKitchen is also partnering with JumpTap
at 3GSM to show the combined benefits of mobile search and ODP
applications. Both companies running demos on the urfKitchen stand,
D64, in Hall 1, and on the JumpTap stand, 2.1F54 in Hall 2, Level 1.
The companies say that since mobile search is an application that
subscribers will access multiple times per day, they want it on the
main screen of their devices, as soon as they open the phone.
Integrating search with ODPs will allow access to the long-tail of
mobile content, and will provide a way to deliver relevant targeted
advertising.
On Device Portals offer a compelling and proven way to market and
sell content on a mobile device says SurfKitchen CEO Michel Quazza.
By adding the dynamic of mobile search to the equation, the client
turns into a one stop on-device shop for content purchase.
Finally, Volantis, which supplies
Intelligent Content Adaptation solutions has announced the addition
of SurfKitchen to its GetBuzz Partner Program. GetBuzz leverages
Volantis partner user interface (UI) solutions to enhance the delivery
of its BuzzCast personalised news and entertainment application.
SurfKitchen joins existing GetBuzz partners Cibenix and MSX.
