Tablet Click Traffic Quadrupled in a Year, says The Search Agency

Smartphone click traffic increased by 105 per cent year-over-year, according to The Search Agencys State of Paid Search report for Q3, 2012. Mobile saw an increase of 13 per cent in CPC (Cost Per Click), and the largest increase in CTR (Click Through Rate) of any platform, increasing by 27 per cent year-on-year.

Click traffic on tablets, meanwhile, spiked hugely, increasing by 339 per cent year-on-year, with CPC remaining flat.

Traffic from mobile devices increased particularly strongly in the media and entertainment industry, with smartphone and tablet click traffic share growing 132 per cent year-on-year.

“Tablets and mobile represent a major area of rapid growth,” said Keith Wilson, vice president of agency products at The Search Agency. “We expect this growth to continue to pick up pace, especially as we hit the holiday shopping season and new tablets are introduced in to the market.”

Overall, across all platforms, click traffic increased by 27 per cent year-on-year – and while Google remains the dominant search engine, the Yahoo-Bing alliance did a little bit of catching up. In terms of traffic growth, quarter-on-quarter, Yahoo-Bing (9.6 per cent) far outperformed Google (0.7 per cent).
