Tablets Dropped into the UK Inflation Shopping Basket

Tablet devices are among the consumer items that have been added to the Office for National Statistics shopping basket, used to calculate the rate of inflation in the UK. The basket, which is updated every year year to reflect current spending trends, contains 700 items.

“Tablets have been introduced to represent a significant and growing market,” says ONS in the report. “This mirrors the evolution of computer equipment through desktop personal computers, laptops and now Tablets, and they are being introduced to capture price changes in this rapidly expanding market.”
