Text and Tee Off

Thats Clever, an online communication and marketing company, has announced the launch of its golf text service, Club Messenger, which goes live on Friday. Golfers can use the service to access up-to-date information on weather and course conditions, in order to avoid wasted journeys. The company says the service provides a useful alternative to club information phone lines, which it says are often engaged or in need of updating.
The idea was to give added value to club members while addressing the marketing requirements of a modern golf club, says Thats Clever Managing Director, John Reynolds. I believe our new text service, Club Messenger, is a world golfing first. All a member has to do is send a keyword using a mobile phone and they get the information they want delivered back to their mobile in seconds.
The idea for Club Messenger originated at the Churston Golf Club, Devon, where the service has been in place for almost a year.
The idea arose after a conversation with a member who lived 30 miles away, says Reynolds. There was a huge difference in the weather between his home and the course, and poor traffic conditions could easily add an hour to his journey. Now members can get live weather reports, as well as information about road and access problems, course conditions, temporary tees and greens.
