Text Campaign Supports the Environment

Mobile messaging firm Txtlocal has donated its services to help The Green Earth Appeal, which combines the joy of eating while simultaneously giving something back to nourish our planet.

Txtlocal is working with The Green Earth Appeal on its ‘Carbon-free Dining’ campaign, whereby diners have an opportunity to benefit from 2-for-1 meals or 50 per cent off their food bill, in return for a text costing £1.50. The revenue generated is used to pay to plant a tree through a United Nations Partner in Africa, Asia or S. America, helping to rebalance areas pillaged by deforestation. This helps to offset the carbon associated with the production, transportation and preparation of the meal, thus ‘Carbon-free Dining’.

Txtlocal has also launched a dedicated Charity Shortcode. This gives supporters the ability to make instant donations via SMS to their chosen charity. Using the Charity Shortcode to collect donations means the Charity benefits from receiving the full cost of the donation, less the cost of the Network Handling Charge, meaning that a greater proportion of money (around 10 per cent more according to Txtlocal) goes to the charity for every donation made.
