ROK TV reports that its 2.5G GPRS Mobile TV service launched in Thailand last week has attracted 15,000 subscribers in the first seven days. This despite the fact that the campaign to promote the service does not roll out until 21 February. AIS is seeking to recruit 1 million subscribers to ROK TV within the next 12 months.
ROK launched its service in Thailand in conjunction with mobile network AIS on 1 February, and signed up 10,000 consumers in the first four days, and 15,000 in the first week.
I put the fantastic take-up down to the fact that this is the first on-demand Mobile TV service in Thailand says ROK Marketing Director Bruce Renny. To get this many people in the first week with no promotion is remarkable. I think it shows the high perceived value of on-demand Mobile TV, compared to the low perceived value of broadcast TV on a mobile phone. The early adopters have really latched on to it and are spreading the word virally about how good it is.
Over the next couple of months, ROK will launch similar services in S. Africa, Pakistan, the Philippines and Brazil, with a further three services per month throughout 2007.
