Guardian News & Media has launched the iPad edition of the Guardian. The Guardian iPad edition is available on Newsstand, a feature of iOS 5 that allows consumers to find digital newspaper and magazine products in one dedicated place on the App Store, and organise them on one bookshelf. Guardian subscribers will receive new issues automatically on their iPad. Latest issues and most recent cover art will appear in Newsstand
The iPad app offers full offline reading for all articles and pictures; the ability to share stories via Facebook,Twitter and email; related web articles, which open in an in-app browser; related video content; and interactive advertising slots. Users swipe to navigate between sections or stories.
At launch, the app includes UK, international and financial news; comment, editorials, letters and obituaries; reviews; sport; G2 features; the MediaGuardian, EducationGuardian and SocietyGuardian sections; the weekly Film & Music supplement; and on Saturdays, the Sport, Review, Travel, Family, Money and Work sections, along with the main newspaper.
Access to the Guardian iPad edition will be free for the first three months, thanks to sponsorship from Channel 4, after which users will be able to sign up for a monthly subscription for £9.99 through in-app purchase on the App Store. Guardian six- and seven-day print subscribers will continue to receive free access to the app after the three month period via their current subscription.
