While we were all watching the Olympic, mobile messaging company Sybase 365 was watching us watch the Olympics – or at least, the texts we sent. And by monitoring peaks in SMS traffic corresponding to specific events, its figured out the top texted Olympic Moments.

Tying for fifth place are the final medal, awarded during the closing ceremony, and Andy Murray taking home the Mens Tennis Singles gold – both pushing up SMS traffic 36 per cent above normal levels. Traffic jumped 46 per cent when Britain won gold for the Men’s Team Cycling Sprint – putting it in third position.

The rest of the top five went to the Opening Ceremony – with the Queen and James Bond parachuting into the ceremony, which saw a jump of 40 per cent, narrowly missing out on a spot on the podium in fourth place. Taking silver was Team GBs entrance into the arena, with a jump of 56 per cent, but the undisputed winner was the Parade of Nations.

As the 200-plus nations represented at the games entered the arena, SMS traffic jumped by a mighty 137 per cent – presumably, as everyone looked away from the screen to see what was going on on their phones.
