In these user-generated content times, and at the start of a week which will climax (it says here) with the final of The X-Factor, it was probably inevitable that someone would launch a user-generated personalised ringtone service which would enable consumers to create their own unique ringtones by recording their voice to hits from the worlds best artists. And indeed, someone has.
ReVoice Singtones uses voice synchronisation and enhancing technology originally developed for use in professional music and movie studios, to alter the consumers voice so that the singer is in tune and in time. X-Factor producers, please take note.
Users pay for the Singtone only when they send it to a friend there are no subscription charges. How much the service costs is, however, at this point unclear. In answer to the question: How much does a ReVoice Singtone cost? in the FAQ section of the Singtones website, all you get is: You will be informed of the price before you make a purchase. There is, however, a selection of free Singtones available from the website for an introductory period.
To create a Singtone, users log on and download the Singtone Studio programme, containing hits from artists including Elvis, Madonna and McFly, among others. Then, using an add-on microphone, its just a question of singing along.
Alternatively, users can obtain song codes and lyrics from the website and create their Singtones via a phone. Either way the Singtone can be rehearsed and recorded as many times as the user likes before sending it to a music-playing mobile phone.
To receive and play Singtones, the recipients mobile phone must be capable of playing an MP3 or AMR format audio file, and connecting to the Internet. To pay for chargeable Singtones, users must have a UK mobile phone account with O2, Orange, Vodafone or T-Mobile.
