The X Factor returns to ITV this weekend and for the first time the show will be backed by a bespoke iPhone app.
The app, sponsored by Rimmel London, includes a tap to clap feature, which allows viewers to tap their iPhone to show their appreciation for an acts performance. Applause can then be shared to Twitter and Facebook.
The app also provides clips, news and highlights from The X Factor show and can be used via WiFi and 3G.
Robert Marsh, head of talkbackTHAMES digital, says: “Were really proud of the digital offering for The X Factor 2011; every year were adopting new and innovative ways to engage fans and give them added entertainment value beyond the TV screen. Were confident they will enjoy the additional content, the new website and the fantastic new iPhone app.”
Richard Williams, controller of multiplatform commissioning at ITV, says: “This years digital offering for The X Factor is all about giving fans new and exciting opportunities to interact with the show in real time – including our first dedicated iPhone app and the launch of the Superfans feature. Weve focused on commissioning and developing content that reflects the appetite we know is out there, for fans to join in with the live TV experience, as well as providing more chances to get closer and more involved with everything The X Factor outside of the linear transmission.”
Superfans rewards The X Factors most ardent fans by inviting them to be roving reporters at The X Factor events. Their thoughts will be posted on The X Factors official website as videos or blogs.
