TikTok adds Family Safety Mode, extends Screentime Management to the Feed

TikTok has introduced a Family Safety Mode, which is designed to help parents and guardians keep their teens safe on the platform.

Family Safety Mode links a parents TikTok account to their teens and once enabled, they will be able to control Digital Wellbeing features, including how long their teen can spend on TikTok each day; who can send messages to the connected account or turn off direct messaging completely; and restrict the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for all audiences.

TikTok is also extending the Screen Time Management feature it introduced last April to help people set limits for how long they spend on TikTok each day, to the Feed. The social network has partnered with some of our most followed creators to create “unique and proactive” in-app prompts that remind users to be aware of the time they spend on TikTok and to encourage them to consider taking some time out.

Family Safety Mode and Screentime Management in Feed are available in the UK now. Both features will begin to roll out to additional markets in the coming weeks.
