Popular IAC/Match Group-owned dating app Tinder has launched a university-only version of its matchmaking service.
Tinder U operates in exactly the same way as regular Tinder, but it’s segmented from the normal app and profiles include badges highlighting what university or college users are attending.
The new feature is available to US students at 4-year, accredited, not-for-profit schools with a face-to-face learning format who have iOS devices.
In order to access the feature, students login to Tinder while they’re on campus and provide the app with their .edu email address. Once verified, they are able to swipe, match, and message as normal – but, this time, will only be able to see fellow students at both their university and nearby ones. Users will be able to toggle between the regular app and Tinder U.
Tinder is marketing the feature as not just a way for dating and hooking up, but also as a way for users to find study buddies or friends when they’re new to campus.
