TomTom has announced several enhancements to its iPhone application, including HD traffic compatibility and Local Search powered by Google. TomTom says the new features, combined with enhanced integration with the iPhone interface, ensure optimal routing and a more intuitive navigation experience.
TomTom Traffic updates are received automatically every three minutes, providing real-time traffic speed and incident reports directly on the iPhone. As soon as a delay is found on the route, users are notified and can be automatically re-routed to an alternative, faster route. Traffic delays can be heard audibly on the device as well as displayed on the screen. TomTom HD Traffic is an optional service available for purchase on the App store.
TomTom app for iPhone version 1.3 includes additional features that are available for free to existing TomTom app customers. Local Search powered by Google provides points of interest information, enabling users to locate and route to anything from restaurants to flower shops.
Pinch and zoom capability is also supported, enabling users to pinch and zoom for a more detailed view of the navigation map. The app also incorporates TomTom's latest map, and features an automatic day/night mode which automatically adjusts the screen brightness while driving  Theres also a music fading feature which lowers the music on the iPhone during turn-by-turn instructions, and then increases it when the  instructions are complete. Finally, an Add to my TomTom feature enables users to save locations from other iPhone apps and web browsers to the TomTom app.

For new users, the TomTom app for iPhone including maps of the UK/Republic of Ireland is available for 54.99. Maps of Western Europe are available for 59.99. TomTom Traffic for iPhone users is available via in-app purchase for an additional 0.59/4.99/11.49/37.99 per day/month/quarter/year respectively.
