A mobile app for doctors and nurses to update patient information and manage daily admin tasks while away from the office has launched in the UK.

TotalMobile, a native app available on iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows devices, should enable healthcare providers to reduce their time spent on paperwork. Staff can securely login to the application offline when devices are without a signal. It integrates with existing back-end IT systems and is encrypted to protect data in transmission and if the device is lost.

The tool was created in response to the call by the Secretary of State for Health to work towards a paperless records system by 2018. The Department of Health’s recent National Mobile Health Worker Project found that using mobile tech can increase patient contact by more than 100 per cent and reduce time spent travelling by 33 per cent.

The company, owned by Consilium Technologies, has already found success  providing mobile technology to local government and social care providers. It is now hoping to build a profile within the healthcare market.
