UK ZAPPIntelligent vending machine software company TouchGo Technology Systems has partnered with Zapp to enable mobile payments on its UK network of vending machines.

The partnership aims to put an end to customers hunting through their pockets for change at vending machines, by enabling users to simply tap their mobile phone and pay using Zapp to retrieve their goods.

Consumers currently spend over £1.5bn on refreshment vending machine products, and the industry is continuing to grow. The partnership enables TouchGo to take advantage of this appetite for food on the go, building on the success of their early integration of debit cards and contactless payments with their Azure cloud connected vending machines.

Following partnerships with HSBC, First Direct, Nationwide, Santander and Metro Bank, a third of all UK bank accounts will be Zapp-enabled, and the company already has extensive dealings with merchant acquirers and payment service providers including Secure Trading, WorldPay and Checkout.com.

“At TouchGo we pride ourselves on being at the cutting edge of technology,” said Per Hovland, CEO of TouchGo. “Intelligent vending machines are ubiquitous, and in addition to food and drink vending (including the new coffee tower concept), can now provide consumers with a range of retail products. However, innovations such as Zapp coupled with TouchGos real time touch screen technology enable us to be even more convenient and attractive to consumers ensuring vending keeps pace as technology and the cashless society takes off.”
