Translation Goes Mobile

Paragon Software Groups Smart Handheld Devices division has announced the launch of the Duden-Oxford German-English Dictionary, for Smartphones and other mobile devices. The dictionary can be used on all the most popular mobile platforms, such as Symbian OS (S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3.0), Windows Mobile (Pocket PC and Smartphone editions) and Palm OS, and requires only 10MB of memory card space.
Thanks to Paragons compression engine, the dictionarys comprehensive database can be browsed rapidly, enabling wireless translation on the move for language learners of all levels.
The German-English dictionary contains practical advice on selecting the right idioms used in everyday spoken and written communication. It offers numerous examples of word usage and spelling, and covers aspects as regional and national differences. The dictionary also offers useful instructions on German and English grammar, as well as e-mail samples and tips for phone calls and SMS messages.
Additional features include an extensive database of 300,000 word entries and 470,000 translations; 8,000 audio pronunciations for difficult words; the facility to translate the word in any grammatical form and in any application running on the device, without switching to the dictionary program; a search for words with unknown spelling using ? and * symbols; a multilingual onscreen keyboard layout, enabling users to enter and translate words and letters in different languages, even if it is not supported by the device.
The Duden-Oxford German-English Dictionary on Palm OS is available for 39.95 (32) from www.penreader.com. Editions for Symbian OS are available for 49.95 EUR, while Windows Mobile versions will be available in April for 49.95 (Windows Mobile Pocket PC) and 39.95 (Windows Mobile Smartphone).
