Thai mobile operator TrueMove has attempted to promote the use of QR codes with a campaign that offered its customers a 10 Baht (£0.20) balance top-up if they downloaded 3G Vision’s i-nigma-based barcode reader from the TrueMove mobile portal.
TrueMove also used the campaign to promote the use of QR Codes and educate users on how to use them. It produced a leaflet explaining how to download the QR Code reader, and how to scan QR Codes. By scanning QR Codes printed on the leaflet, TrueMove customers could get a ringtone, music track or discount coupons.
TrueMove promoted the campaign during the month of June with print ads in magazines, and TV advertising on its TrueVision cable-TV network.
The campaign ran from 16 May 16 to 30 June, and according to the operator, the results “were well above initial expectations”. No numbers though.
