Twitter Acquires Mobile Ad Startup TapCommerce for $100m

tapcommerce twitterTwitter has acquired mobile startup TapCommerce in an attempt to further develop its mobile advertising ecosystem.

While Twitter has not announced the terms of the deal, Re/code is reporting that the deal for the privately held company may be worth up to $100m (£58m).

TapCommerce specialises in mobile retargeting, working with companies such as eBay, Hotels.com and Clash of Clans game publisher Supercell, and Twitter says the acquisition will not change any of the service delivered to existing customers.

In a blog post, Twitters VP of global online sales, Richard Alfonsi said that “with the TapCommerce team, Twitter will be able to offer mobile app marketers more robust capabilities for app re-engagement, tools and managed service solutions for real-time programmatic buying, and better measurement capabilities.”

The deal comes in the wake of Twitters $350m acquisition of mobile advertising network MoPub in September 2013. The TapCommerce platform is already deeply integrated with MoPub, and the acquisition means the two systems are likely to become even more connected. However, Alfonsi said that “MoPub will continue to work with multiple demand partners through the MoPub Marketplace and will continue to provide the same open and neutral access to the ad space as they have always done.”
