Twitter chief Jack Dorsey brings Square business payments to the UK

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s business payments service Square has arrived in the UK – making it the fifth country where the service is available, joining the US, Canada, Japan and Australia.

Square, founded in 2009, enables small businesses to take card and contactless payments – rather than just accepting cash – through the use of mobile card readers that connect to a smartphone or tablet. In addition, the Square Point of Sale – POS app includes tools such as invoicing, digital receipts and real-time sales data.

“We founded Square to empower small businesses with tools to accept all forms of payment and to make a sale anytime, anywhere,” said Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square. “We look forward to working alongside the millions of entrepreneurs and thriving small and medium-sized businesses across the UK, especially those who do not yet take card payments.”

“Whether you’re a plumber, an accountant, a cafe or a corner shop owner, Square can help your business thrive,” added Sarah Harvey, Square UK country manager. “We’re excited to be here in the UK and can’t wait to help businesses get started with Square.”
