Twitter Launches #Music

Twitter has launched its own music discovery app, Twitter #Music.

With #Music, users can play and tweet tracks pulled from iTunes by default, as well as Spotify and Rdio if the user is a subscriber.

The idea behind the service is three-pronged: presenting the most popular tracks and emerging artists based on Twitter activity; linking together artists Twitter presence and their music; and enabling users to directly tweet songs.

The launch follows Twitters acquisition of music search service We Are Hunted, which was confirmed earlier this month but seems to actually date back as far as last year.

#Music is initially rolling at as an iOS app and web service in the US and Canada, the UK and Ireland, and Australia and New Zealand. Twitter has promised an Android app in the future, as well as a rollout to more countries.
