Twitter to Publish Promoted Tweets on Mobile

Twitter is set to expand its advertising offering for iPhone and Android devices. The company will push paying customers promoted tweets and promoted accounts to the timelines of Twitters mobile applications. Promoted tweets will now appear in user timelines just as regular tweets do.

The company says that apps will only display promoted tweets if they are relevant to the user, and users can dismiss tweets that they do not deem relevant.

Until now, promoted trends and tweets could only be seen through searches on iPhone and Android, or via the mobile web, but Twitter is aiming to monetise its many mobile users by promoting content through its apps.

“Weve had a simple philosophy since we first launched ads on Twitter, and its this: We strive to create products that put users first, and continue to enrich your Twitter experience,” said the company in a blog post. “Todays news represents another important step in our advertising efforts, and we hope you like it.”
