The Scottish Tourist Board, VisitScotland has launched a mobile Internet site as part of its Find It trial, designed to provide visitors coming to Edinburgh for Hogmanay with a free personal Whats On guide direct to their mobile phone. The site has been created by mobile agency TXT4.
Visitors can access up-to-date information about whats on and where to go by texting FINDIT to 64118. Respondents can read reports on the best bars, restaurants, and attractions and even check the 2-day weather forecast. Handset location technology also enables visitors to search for their nearest chosen venue and for the first time ever, receive a map direct to their mobile for full directions. The service is also available to visitors without Wap-enabled handsets, who can instead access information via SMS.
The guide is being promoted with an outdoor, online and press campaign and through the distribution of Cheat Sheets, flyers containing step-by-step instructions for using the guide.
Mobile is a great way for people to find out information while theyre out and about, providing a convenient round the clock service which we hope will help visitors really make the most of their stay, says VisitScotland Director of Visitor Services and Quality, Willie Macleod.
We wanted to make this service accessible to everyone, so people can still access lists of the best venues in town by following their first text message with either of the keywords, EAT or DRINK.
