Txtlocal MMS Campaign Raises £1,000 for Marie Curie

Mobile messaging firm Txtlocal has raised over £1,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care using multimedia text messaging.

Txtlocal has been working with Marie Curie since the beginning of the year, and wanted to support the charity’s annual ‘Blooming Great Tea Party, where people hold tea parties in aid of the charity. All money raised from the tea parties helps Marie Curie Nurses to provide more free care to patients with terminal cancer and other illnesses in their own homes, or in one of the charity’s hospices.

Txtlocal sent an email inviting its clients to join in their own Tea Party event by sending in MMS pictures of themselves, having a cup of tea, or holding up a meaningful message. All that clients needed to do was take a photo with their mobile phone and text it in with the keyword ‘Tea’ to the MMS shortcode 88600.  Txtlocal vowed to donate £20 for every MMS picture texted in to the shortcode.

“The response has been phenomenal, with many of our clients on board supporting such a worthwhile charity,” says Eduardo Moura, Marie Curie’s account manager at Txtlocal. “It’s great to see our clients working with us in this way, and we are proud to have raised over £1,000, a significant amount in such a short amount of time. This demonstrates how we can use the power of mobile to be creative, but also to fundraise in a fast and low cost way. We would like to thank our clients for supporting us in our fundraising quest for Marie Cure Cancer Care.”

Txtlocal works with many other charities, and has a dedicated offering, which guarantees to give 100 per cent  of any mobile donation, with no contract fees and a simple set up process. Anyone wishing to hold their own Blooming Great Tea Party can get a free fundraising pack with full instructions from the Marie Curie website.
