Following a pilot in San Francisco and Boston, Uber has rolled out its Express Pool service to more cities across the US.
Express Pool works much like UberPool in that it enables riders to share their journeys with others heading in the same general direction for cheaper fares. With Express, however, riders are required to do a little walking, after a few minutes of waiting to be matched with a driver, so that drivers can pick up all poolers from the same pickup point.
In addition to having to walk a little prior to the journey, riders will also have to walk a bit at the end of their journey to reach their final destination. The idea is to make the experience easier for drivers, so they don’t have to constantly deviate from a route to pick up and drop off passengers, while making the journey even cheaper for riders. In both pick up and drop off instances, the Uber app provides walking directions for users.
Express Pool is rolling out to Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., on top of San Francisco and Boston. Uber says it will bring the service to more cities soon.
