Uber rival Lyft wants you to make a change and give the community a little charity

As Uber continues to suffer a PR crisis on all fronts, Lyft has decided to play its good Samaritan card as it seeks to make ground on its ride-hailing rival.

The San Francisco-based transportation network will soon give passengers the chance to round up their fares and donate the difference to charity. Lyft says the program called ‘Round Up & Donate’ will launch ‘in a few weeks’ and, should users opt-in, their fares will automatically be rounded up to the nearest whole dollar – with the difference being donated to good causes.

“It’s what Lyft was founded on. That taking a seat can make a difference. That bringing enough rumps together can make a real impact on our environment. That parking your backsides in back seats across the nation is a way to rebuild our communities around people, not cars. And treating people better along the way is just the way we do it,” said Lyft in a blog post.

“So we’ve been thinking. What else can we do by bottling the powers of our collective bottoms to make meaningful change beyond the ride?”
