Uber has plans to use Facebook data to show people what they have in common with fellow UberPool passengers.
According to a patent filing discovered by Business Insider, Uber intends to use the data to show people the interests they have in common and/or the friends they share in the hope of making ridesharing less awkward. It hopes do this by asking passengers to connect their Facebook profiles to the Uber app.
The possible future feature will work by showing people the profile picture, last status update, and common link(s) with fellow passengers. The possible links may include telling people if they went to the same school/college/university, have ever worked for the same company, grew up in the same place, were born in the same country or share the same hobbies.
Uber is also proposing an exclusive version where users can proactively request to share a car only with people who share their interests.
It is important to note that this patent has not yet been, or if it ever will be, granted and, currently, has only been filed by the transportation network.
