UK mCommerce Crosses the Tipping Point

Criteo-40x40More than half of all online sales for UK retailers now come from mobile, with the figure among the leading 25 per cent of mobile retailers now as high as 60 per cent, according to a new report from Criteo.

The companys State of Mobile Commerce report found that mobile transactions have grown 11 per cent year-on-year since Q2 2015 overall, with top retailers rising even faster, up 15 per cent.

Fashion and luxury retailers are seeing the largest number of sales on mobile, followed by mass merchants, home, and health & beauty. Home retailers saw the biggest year-on-year growth, increasing an astonishing 53 per cent to overtake sporting goods and health & beauty.

Among the other trends identified are smartphones continuing rise over tablets, with smartphones increasing their transaction share by 26 per cent since Q2 2015, and iOS extending its lead on Android, accounting for a larger share of transactions despite a smaller user base.

Apps continue to be central to the mCommerce world, delivering 54 per cent of all mobile transactions and, perhaps more crucially, offering twice the retention rate of mobile web and a much higher conversion rate than even desktop.

The State of Mobile Commerce report also offers a glimpse at the international market, examining where the UK stands compared to other countries, and offers advice on what retailers can do now as the mobile market matures, and how brands can position themselves as leaders in mobile.
