UKs Zume Unveils Second Screen App with Japanese Partner

UK-based Zume has signed its first global deal with a Japanese distribution partner to stream coverage of the next season of F1 to mobile and tablet users in the country.

The Zume Media Platform is being unvelied at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas. The app takes all the content being broadcast from an event – independent of your TV – and streams it live or provides VOD content via a broadcast or operator partner. Users will be able to choose which camera feed to watch, view multiple simultaneous camera angles, car positions and concurrent videos, pinch and grab different content elements, tweet from within the app and access race stats. The platform also provides additional behind the scenes content and enables users to pause, rewind and replay race footage in real time.

The platform has been developed over two years in the UK in collaboration with WRN Broadcast and backed by Dendy Partners VC fund. This is the companys first deal and Zume says there will be multiple partnerships made over the coming months with sports rights holders, broadcasters and mobile operators.

“Sports entertainment has changed forever,” said Bruce Steinberg, director at Zume. “From Formula 1 to football, fans are accessing content from multiple devices, choosing the cameras, the angles and the highlights they want. Zume makes this possible, letting fans use their imagination to personalise their viewing experience and become the architects of their own shows. We want to put the spotlight on new forms of content for passionate audiences.”
