Unity has made its Android and iOS game development tools available for free to independent developers.
Developers previously required paid add-ons, costing $400 each, to publish Unity games to Android and iOS.
The platform is already behind a whole host of mobile games, including Temple Run 2 and Rovios Angry Birds spin-off Bad Piggies, but presumably this move will help give Unity a stronger presence among smaller developers in the near future.
To make sure Unity continues to make money, bigger companies (with an annual turnover of more than $100,000) will be required to pay for the Pro versions of these tools, costing $1,500 for each platform.
Unity promises BB10 and Windows Phone 8 deployment will follow suit, and become available for free, shortly.
